Dick Rutledge retired in 2005 after 45 years in management and private consulting practice involving corporate strategic planning, land-use planning and acquisition for major interstate utility and transportation infrastructure projects. He did not have the honor of military service, but his father and some dozen members of his immediate family have served in all branches of the armed services. Dick takes great pride in and will be forever grateful for their service and sacrifice. He first became aware of the great work of Tee it up for the Troops in early 2007 and later that year he and his Alta Vista Country Club colleagues conducted their first of four annual Tee it up for the Troops golf tournaments for the veteran and wounded warrior cause. Dick’s continued involvement with Tee it up for the Troops is motivated by his abiding sense of gratitude and indebtedness to all of those who have and are presently serving in America’s armed services. While that debt can never be fully repaid, it is his hope that by supporting those who have sacrificed for him, he can at least pay some of the accrued interest.
Dick earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Pepperdine University. He has also completed the Executive Program of Management at the University of California Los Angeles and the Public Utilities Executive Management Program at the University of Idaho. After completing his college degree he was employed at Edison International, Inc. in Southern California Edison Co. from 1962 to 1996. His last position held at Edison International was the Director of Corporate Business Recovery & Emergency Preparedness. In 1997 Dick became the Founder and President of Rutledge Associates LLC and worked there until he retired.
He has also served and held leadership positions on a variety of business and governmental boards, including Vice President George H. W. Bush’s Advisory Council on Regulatory Reform, the National Association of Contingency Planners, the California Utility Emergency Association and the City of Los Angeles’ Business & Industry Council for Emergency Planning. Most recently he has been privileged to have served on the Men’s Club Board of Directors for the Alta Vista Country Club, the Board of Governors for the California Tee it up for the Troops Chapter, the national Advisory Board and the national Board of Directors for Tee it up for the Troops.
Dick has been married to his wife Karen for 49 years. They have three adult children and five grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, fishing, ocean cruising and long distance USA road-trips.
