How Does the Public Evaluate Non-Profit Expenditures?
There are no set rules or guidelines that determine how much money a non-profit can spend on management, general administration, and fundraising. However, the government requires all non-profits to disclose their administrative cost on Form 990, along with their income tax return each year. These forms are public information.
Charitable watchdog groups then provide information, reviews and ratings for nonprofit organizations. A weak review or low rating from one of these watchdog groups will rightfully discourage potential donors.
