The Dataw Island celebration of veteran service will kick off on Sunday morning with member volunteers lining the main street of Dataw with 3500 American flags. NEW this year will be the Dataw Island Big Break Charity Challenge on the Cotton Dike course. The challenge will include 3 divisions (Mixed Couples, Men’s and Women’s) and will begin with a shotgun start at 11AM on Sunday. The day will conclude with a Toast to the Troops Happy Hour on the Driving Range.
Monday’s activities get underway early with Chris Fearn, Dataw Island’s Assistant Golf Pro, teeing it up in his one-man golf marathon (playing an astounding 251 holes of golf in 2019) all in the name of raising funds for our veterans, through Tee It Up for the Troops, the beneficiary organization.
Chris looks forward to the members that join him early in the morning with golf cart lights on, those that cheer him throughout the day, and those that gather at the end of the long day to celebrate the success of the event. “The members cheering me on is really what keeps me going,” he said. “Although it takes me a few days to recover, it’s a small sacrifice that I’m honored to make to support all those who served.”
Monday concludes with a Low Country Boil hosted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12, Beaufort, SC.
Tuesday morning begins with the patriotic Opening Ceremony and Veterans March followed by the Golf Classic scramble. The festivities will conclude with a Dataw Art Club silent auction and outdoor luncheon.
Due to COVID restrictions, the 2020 event will include Dataw Island residents and club staff only.
