Dataw Island Celebration of Veteran Service to benefit Tee It Up for the Troops

Event Details

Dataw Island Veterans Week

The exciting Dataw Island Celebration of Veteran Service event kicks off in the pre-dawn of Sunday morning, November 7, with member volunteers lining the entry street of Dataw Island with over 3,500 American flags. It’s a very moving sight to see! Beginning at 11:00 AM a super fun, newer tradition, the Dataw Island Big Break Charity Challenge, will take place. This challenge event begins with a shotgun start and includes three divisions – mixed couples, men’s, and women’s. After a rousing day of play, the day will wind down with a Toast to the Troops Happy Hour on the Driving Range. Volunteer ‘guest’ bartenders help bring the big tips!

New this year will be a competition comprised of four two-player teams called Fore the Cause. Kicking off on Monday at 10:00 AM four teams of competitors including Chris Fearn, Dataw Island’s Director of Golf; Dave Britton, past Director of Golf; Chris “Howie” Howard, First Golf Pro-Assistant; Ted Bartlett, Dataw Island Club General Manager; Brian Hollinsworth, Director of Golf Maintenance; and three others yet to be named, will “step up to the tee” Fore the Cause! Details of this competition are being finalized and will include Dataw Island residents wagering bets for the winning team as well as birdies and eagles made by the competitors. Monday guests will enjoy a Lowcountry boil hosted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12, Beaufort, South Carolina.

Tuesday morning begins bright and early with a patriotic Opening Ceremony and Veterans March followed by The 2021 Veterans Tournament.

The busy, fun-filled week concludes on Thursday with a special breakfast honoring the service of Dataw’s own military and where members can learn more about the history of the enduring relationship between Dataw Island and the Tee It Up for the Troops organization. Members will partake in a breakfast buffet while enjoying a presentation of colors by a local ROTC Color Guard, a warrior guest speaker, and the voices of the Dataw choir.

For many years Dataw Island Club has lovingly embraced the Tee It Up for the Troops tournaments, and we are profoundly grateful for the incredible volunteer efforts and gracious financial support of our residents and members. We are looking forward to another great Celebration of Veteran Service at Dataw Island in 2021!
