The exciting 17th annual Dataw Island Club weeklong Mission Possible Veteran’s Celebration kicks off in the pre-dawn of Sunday morning, November 6 when club member volunteers line the entry street of Dataw Island with over 3,500 American flags. It’s a very moving sight to see! Beginning at 11:00 a.m. a super fun, newer tradition, the Dataw Island Big Break Charity Challenge, will take place. This challenge event begins with a shotgun start and includes three divisions – mixed couples, men’s, and women’s. After rousing rounds of play, the day will wind down with a Tip It Up for the Troops Happy Hour in the club pub. Volunteer ‘celebrity’ bartenders help bring the big tips and as does a raffle.
Kicking off Monday morning is a Fore the Cause competition of four two-player teams comprises of people significant to the Dataw community. Dataw members make donations to this event based on the total number of holes played, birdies and eagles. Each team plays 72 holes, a total of 288. In the evening, member and visiting veterans are treated to an abundant Lowcountry Boil hosted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12, Beaufort, South Carolina.
Tuesday morning begins early with a patriotic Opening Ceremony and Veterans March, raising of the flags, national anthem, and reading of the governor’s proclamation, followed by the 2022 Veterans Tournament. After the tournament, players and veteran guests are treated to a cookout.
This year on Wednesday evening, Dataw Club members and other guests will enjoy a concert of patriotic music performed by the Lowcountry Wind Symphony.
The busy, fun-filled week concludes on Thursday with a special breakfast honoring the service of Dataw’s own military and where members can learn more about the history of the enduring relationship between Dataw Island Club and the Tee It Up for the Troops organization. Members will partake in a breakfast buffet while enjoying a presentation of colors by a local ROTC Color Guard, presentation of the Fallen Soldier table, voices of the Dataw choir, and warrior guest speaker.
For many years Dataw Island Club has lovingly embraced the Tee It Up for the Troops tournaments, and we are profoundly grateful for the incredible volunteer efforts and gracious financial support of our residents and members. We are looking forward to another great Celebration of Veteran Service at Dataw Island in 2022!
