Flag-lined streets honoring American veterans help usher in the Dataw Island Golf Club’s Veterans Week.
Teeing off at 3:30 am, Chris Fearn, Dataw Island’s Assistant Golf Pro, tees off in his one-man Golf Marathon (playing an astounding 251 holes of golf in 2019) all in the name of raising funds for our veterans, through Tee It Up for the Troops, the beneficiary organization.
“Having members and veterans there cheering me on is really what keeps me going,” he said. “Although it takes me a few days to recover afterwards, it’s a small sacrifice that I’m happy to make in support of Tee It Up for the Troops.
The week-long celebration of service begins on Saturday evening with Guest Bartender night at the Pub, and continues Sunday with member volunteers lining the streets of Dataw with 3,500 American flags. Monday starts early with the Marathon and the day concludes with a dinner reception in the Gazebo, honoring veterans.
Tuesday morning begins with the Golf Classic, followed by the annual Veterans Luncheon – a tradition that is a beautiful tribute to all of the veterans on Dataw Island. The event also includes a silent auction. The week-long festivities conclude with a Veterans Breakfast.
